Since 1910 , the name Petromax has stood for self-sufficient lighting, self-determination and independence in the open air. Our history is characterized by tradition, innovation and quality. We are proud to develop our products ourselves as a manufacturer and to place the highest demands on resistance, durability and robustness. Our knowledge, which has proven itself over more than a century, flows into our products and breathes new life into them.

In the early 2000s, Jonas Taureck was gripped by a thirst for adventure and set off from Germany to South Africa with a friend. When the heavy truck got stuck in the hot desert sand on the way, even hours of sand shoveling didn't help. The engine suspension was broken and the engine had destroyed the alternator.

In search of another way to charge the batteries, Jonas and his companion reached a small village in Niger after a few days. Impressed by the bright light that illuminated the huts and streets, they felt relieved: they had finally found a suitable source of energy - apparently.

But what illuminated this village was not powered by electricity, the inhabitants explained to them. There was no sign of a power cable, just a light that was so bright that he had to squint. Then he noticed a noise - a hissing, almost a hissing, and an unmistakable smell: petroleum.

The power that lit up an entire village came from kerosene lamps - for 21-year-old Jonas Taureck, an absolute marvel of technology that would stay with him for a long time and lay the foundation for Petromax.
