A small twisting motion is enough, because the weight of the mortar and pestle grinds the spices almost effortlessly. The ridges inside the bottom of the mortar and on the pestle help with this. All grind sizes are possible with the cast iron mortar:

Black pepper is especially well suited for a very coarse grind. Its texture remains intact while grinding, and the flavor of campfire dishes is intensified. For a fine grind, you crush the spices until they become powder, releasing a fine and intense aroma.

Cast iron mortar for your individual spice blend
