Description

With the Petromax Perkomax coffee and tea are prepared aromatically and without much effort. The unique percolator principle gives coffee and tea a delicious aroma.

Excellent on all heat sources
The Perkomax is suitable for indoors and outdoors: it works just as well on the grill grate and in the hot embers of the campfire as it does on the hotplate, ceramic hob or induction stove. One filling of the percolator can prepare up to nine cups of tea or coffee. The preparation time varies depending on the temperature of the heat source and the amount of water filled.

Incomparable taste thanks to the percolator principle
When heating, the water rises through a tube thanks to the ingenious percolator principle. At the top of the tube is a round filter for the coffee powder. The rising water that emerges from the top of the tube drips onto the coffee powder and then runs back down into the pot as if through a sieve. There it mixes with the water and rises again. The longer the water circulates in the Perkomax, the more intense the flavor of the coffee or tea becomes. This unique principle releases the finest aromas from tea and coffee. So you can prepare an aromatic, full-bodied coffee at home, camping or other outdoor activities without a lot of accessories.

Frequently asked questions

How does a percolator work?

The Perkomax percolators can be conveniently hung over the fire in the outdoor kitchen or placed on the embers. As soon as the water boils, it expands and rises through the stainless steel tube inside the pot. It condenses on the lid and slowly drips back into the pot through the coffee powder or tea leaves. There it mixes with the remaining water and rises again. The longer you let the water circulate, the more aromatic your coffee or tea will be.

What is a rocket stove and how does it work?

The rocket stove is one of the Petromax outdoor stoves and provides concentrated firepower in just 33 cm. This handy and mobile stove and fireplace quickly brings your rustic cookware up to temperature. Thanks to its efficient burning method and easy firing with collected twigs, branches or bark, it is the ideal companion for camping trips.

The functional core is the L-shaped design of the combustion chamber. This creates a chimney effect that makes the rocket stove an effective cooking area. Cold air flowing into the combustion chamber is heated and becomes less dense as its temperature rises, causing it to rise automatically and escape from the vertical opening of your cooking zone. The resulting negative pressure ensures that air is constantly drawn in and expelled. In this way, the rocket stove produces effective combustion even with little fuel and you benefit from fast and strong heat development.

The combustion chamber is continuously supplied with oxygen via the external air openings on the base, which also keeps the blazing flames going. The supply of oxygen is facilitated by the grate with ash tray underneath. This allows combustion residues to fall through the grate into the ash pan and creates sufficient space for new fuel.

What do I need to bear in mind when cooking with the Perkomax?

A strong coffee or a warming tea freshly brewed over the campfire: With the Petromax percolators made of stainless steel or enamel, you can fortify yourself for the adventure. Here are some tips for you to ensure that your attempts at cooking over an open fire are a success:

Observe the minimum filling height: Make sure that the percolator always contains at least the prescribed minimum amount of water. This prevents the percolator from running dry and becoming damaged.
Use coarsely ground coffee powder: Use coarsely ground coffee powder to prevent too many coffee particles from getting into the finished coffee. This ensures a clear and aromatic coffee.
Boil for at least 12 minutes: Allow the coffee or tea to boil for at least 12 minutes so that the full aroma can develop. Depending on the desired strength, you can adjust the boiling time accordingly.
Do not overfill: Do not overfill the percolator to avoid boiling over and to ensure even extraction.
Keep the lid closed: Keep the lid closed during cooking. This ensures even heat distribution and prevents heat from escaping.
Turn the anti-tilt protection (nose) to the handle side (for enamel percolators): Turn the anti-tilt protection (nose) to the handle side of the percolator. This provides additional protection and stability, especially when handling over an open fire.
With these tips, you are well prepared to enjoy delicious hot drinks in the great outdoors with your Petromax percolator.

I can't make coffee in the percolator - what can I do?

The same applies to percolators: it's all a matter of practice. Once you have gotten to know your percolator after one or two uses, you will find it much easier to use. If you're wondering why your coffee or tea drink isn't turning out the way you want, we've listed a few of the most frequently asked questions and our tips for each problem here:

Your question: My lid falls off when pouring (Perkomax enamel)
Our tip: Make sure that the anti-tilt protection (nose) is on the handle side, then the lid will stay in place.

Your question: The water does not boil.
Our tip: Please note the minimum fill level. If there is too little water in the percolator, the water cannot rise.

Your question: My coffee is too weak.
Our tip: The boiling time should be at least 12 minutes, measured from the time the water boils. You are welcome to boil the coffee for longer, this will not affect the taste of the coffee. There should be enough coffee in the filter basket (approx. 8-9 teaspoons), up to just below the top end of the tube in the filter basket.

Your question: My coffee is boiling/splashing.
Our tip: Please note the maximum filling quantity. If the percolator is overfilled, the water may overflow.

Your question: How do I know when my coffee or tea is boiling?
Our tip: As soon as the water starts to boil, you will hear it very clearly. Please never remove the lid during the boiling process, as boiling hot water will splash out of the tube.

With these tips and a little practice, your coffee or tea from the percolator will soon be perfect. Good luck and enjoy!
